Paper Planes

Wednesday, 3rd March 2010
Until Sunday, 25th April 2010

Residents of Southampton, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Wiltshire and Dorset were invited to submit their artwork for this 'open exhibition'. This year the theme is Speed and Flight, to mark and celebrate 100 years since Southampton Airport’s first ever flight. We would like to congratulate all the artists whose work was chosen this year, the response has been overwhelming. The judges’ task of selecting the artwork for this show was very difficult; their choices were based on the skill, inventiveness and originality of the entrant’s response to the theme.

Southampton City Art Gallery is also very pleased to announce that this year's prize winner is Sandie Flower, the announcement was made during the launch event on 28 February when Jan Halliday, Director of Marketing and Communications from Southampton Airport presented her with a cheque for £250 and free Flybe flights. The judges also singled out Malcolm Baker for his outstanding artwork and nominated him to win the runner-up prize.
