Innovative new food outlet The ARTISAN restaurant, threw open its doors in the heart of Southampton’s Cultural Quarter with an evening of fun and frivolity on Thursday 17 September 2015.
Southampton Solent University and catering provider Sodexo Education, refreshingly reinvented the former Plummers department store space into a unique eatery to coincide with the extensive major redevelopment taking place in this evolving part of the city centre.
In keeping with the arts complex it sits within, the décor features a diverse mix of exposed brickwork, chandeliers, bowler hats, tea pots and an abundance of herbs and plants.
To celebrate the refurbishment, the launch event featured quirky entertainment from Still Moving DJs (www.still-moving-djs.com) and a surprise appearance from a Gordon Ramsey celebrity chef impersonator (Martin Jordan) which fooled the crowds.
Guests also had the chance to sample the new look menu including an eclectic mix of artisan style fish finger sandwiches, fresh salads and rustic ploughman lunches. The in-house baristas mixed up a concoction of speciality beverages including ‘London Fogs’ (an Earl Grey tea mixed with frothy milk and vanilla) and ‘Affogatos’ where an ice cold ice cream scoop gently melts into a hot espresso.
Refreshingly, the team aims to simply impress its customers with excellent service and skilfully prepared food. Keen supporters of ethical produce, the outlet will also provide Fairtrade teas and products and will serve locally sourced drinks including juices, ale and cider.
Sodexo’s on-campus catering facilities were recently awarded the prestigious ‘Silver Status’ catering mark as part of the Soil Association’s commitment to venues who recognise ethically-sourced produce free from controversial additives.
