In a bid to increase conference traffic, and to profile Southampton as the destination to hold events, Destination Southampton held a familiarisation weekend for event bookers across England.
The event took place over the weekend of Friday 13th-15th November, and saw attendees introduced to a selection of venues across Southampton.
The weekend kicked off with a visit to Southampton Football Club hosted by Halo Conference & Events, where guests were given a tour of the great facilities as well as getting to see the changing rooms and the pitch. This was followed by an evening of networking with various venues in Southampton whilst participating in a race night hosted by Moonlight Events.
On Saturday the guests were collected from their accommodation at Jury’s Inn Southampton and Grand Harbour Hotel by Princess Coaches and taken to MacDonald Botley Park to partake in a slightly different team building activity. The Bear Grylls Survival Academy had tasks including rope tying, fire starting and eating bugs!
In the afternoon guests were able to explore the local attractions at their leisure including SeaCity Museum, Tudor House, West Quay shopping Centre, Beaulieu Motor Museum and Marwell Wildlife. The weekend concluded on a high note with a fantastic performance by the West End Story cast hosted by the Grand Harbour Hotel.
Guests were thrilled with their experience of Southampton as a conference destination “I want to thank you sincerely for providing a great insight into what Southampton has to offer but more importantly for inviting me to experience it.” Commented Marcia Clarke, Visual Response Ltd. “I learnt a lot about the various venues and the facilities the city and region has to offer, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Grand Harbour hotel.” Margaret Cameron, RICS.
